PO.RO.S - an interactive experience.

PO.RO.S is a museum about the Roman cultural heritage that consists of multimedia experiences. Located in the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, it acts as a cultural space of reference in the dissemination of the Historical Memory of Romanization, based on the use of technology to create interactive and immersive experiences.

Technology and heritage go hand in hand

The story of the Roman legacy in the lands of Sicó is told with a focus on using technology to ensure a dynamic experience for visitors. In this space, we have several themed areas where technology and material heritage coexist, where we can find various types of multimedia equipment and applications.

01. Interactive Screens

Aimed at sharing information and curiosities, interactive screens and tables have been installed to promote educational content using gamification experiences.

02. Imersive Room

After passing through the "Time Tunnel", which marks the beginning of the journey into the Roman legacy, the visitor is invited to enter an immersive room that explores, through audiovisual means, the heritage left by the Romans and its relevance today.

03. Gesture Recognition

Take charge of the Roman army, equip your soldiers and learn more about their war clothing and weaponry.

04. Video Mapping

Dynamic environments that mix projection and material collection in a playful and educational component, in which visitors learn more about objects from Roman culture.

Multimedia museum of reference in Europe

Inaugurated on May 6, 2017, PO.RO.S has won several national and international awards, including the "Heritage in Motion" award in 2018 for the best Multimedia Museum in Europe. At the same ceremony, PO.RO.S also won the "Games and Applications" category, reinforcing its status as an innovative museum. Recently, at the Iberian Heritage Awards 2023, it won in the "Best Technology Project applied to Heritage" category, which is aimed at projects that have managed to bring new technological trends closer to Cultural Heritage through innovative mediation strategies using technology.

We went back in the "Time Tunnel" time to talk to Ana Valadas, coordinator of PO.RO.S, on a journey to the Roman legacy and the Lands of Sicó, to explore the origins of the project and revisit the importance of the technology present in the museum.
